Dorothy Coakes

Dorothy M. Coakes, 88, of Aurora, IL passed away March 22, 2014. She was born February 21, 1926 in Joliet, IL the daughter of the late George and Frances (nee Smith) Meurer “Meyers”. She was a member of St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church. Dorothy was a graduate of Joliet Township Central High School class of 1945. She was employed at Standard Oil Company in the Joliet office. She loved to roller skate at Electric Park in Plainfield, IL where she met her future husband Harold Coakes of Sandwich, IL, the son of Raynor and Mary (Vilmin) Coakes. They were married June 30th 1951 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Father John W. Desmond. They were married for 57 years before his passing in 2009. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her three children James H.(Beth nee Frieders) Coakes, Paul Coakes and Carol (Steve) Rogers, five grandchildren Jennifer (Roman) Soebbing, and Sara and Brian Coakes and Laura and Kevin Rogers, great-grandchildren Alyssa and Addison Soebbing and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her brother George (Barbara nee Cromer) Meurer and sister Marilyn (Raymond) Stukel. She is preceded in death by her husband Harold, her brother James Meurer and one nephew David Stukel.
Family will be receiving guests on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway Ave. Montgomery, IL 60538. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church 750 W. Old Indian Trail Rd. Aurora, IL. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park, Aurora, IL.
