Donald Smith

Donald Edward Smith, 86, of Aurora, IL passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Jennings Terrace. Don was born September 5, 1930. He graduated from Marmion Academy in 1948. In December 1950, Don enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge from services, Don became an iron worker for Local 393. He was a member for over 60 years. Don married Verna Heather of Naperville on April 24, 1954. They were married for 63 years. Don retired in 1990 and they moved to Largo, Florida, where they lived for 14 years. In 2005, they returned to Aurora. Don loved to ride his bike and watch old western movies. He is survived by his wife, Verna; five children, Greg (Pam) Smith, Donna Smith, Gary (Maureen) Smith, Doreen Genslinger (Smith), and Steven Smith; eight grandchildren, Toni and Erik, Brad, Ryan, and Heather, Briana and Matt, and Stephanie; five great grandchildren, Alexandria, Rylee, Brooklyn, Reagan, and Colton; sister, Virginia Hess; and brother, Edward (Ruth) Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Clara Smith. Family will be receiving guests on Monday, August 28, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway, Montgomery, IL.  Funeral Mass will be Tuesday August 29, 2017, at 11:00 am  at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 701 S. Eola Rd., Aurora, IL. Interment private.
