Larry R. Patterson, 75, of Aurora, IL passed away on Friday, October 20, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born on November 30, 1941 the son of Haskell and Mabel Patterson in Aurora, IL. He attended West Aurora High School and graduated in 1959. Larry grew up playing baseball and continued to play for many years. Eventually he began playing fast pitch softball in the US Air Force and later in the Aurora area. He was a talented pitcher and first baseman playing several nights a week. He truly loved all sports, but most especially his Chicago Cubs.

He served proudly in the US Air Force as a parachute rigger for 8 years which included a tour of duty in Vietnam 1966-1967.  After leaving the Air Force he followed in the footsteps of his father and worked as an Operating Engineer with Local 150, heavy equipment.

He was a lifetime member of the Montgomery VFW and Aurora Turners Club.  He was also a member of the American Legion, Amvets, Moose, and Lucky 50 Fishing Club.  He was a longtime board and color guard member for the VFW.

Larry loved spending time with his family, camping, travelling, and for the last 5 winters being a snowbird in Fort Myers, FL.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 6 years, Caryl Farnum, his children Larry R Patterson Jr and Christina (William) Burian both of Montgomery, IL, brother, Harry (Kathy) of Oak Park, IL and Garry (Kathy) of Monico, WI, and a sister Karen Hobscheid of Spooner, Wisconsin.  Also left to cherish their Popo’s memory are grandchildren Jessica (Shane) Cody, of Milton, FL, Anthony Burian of Montgomery, IL and Megan (Nathanial) Rinehart of Oswego, IL as well as four great grandchildren Colby, Rebecca, Aubrey, and Gavin of Milton, Fl.  He is also survived by Caryl’s family, Scott (Alicia) Farnum and Kellie (Kevin) Doyle and grandchildren Olivia and Katelyn Doyle, and many niece and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, a sister, Freada Swanson, and his sweet wife of 41 years, Wilma (Willie) Patterson.

Family will be receiving guests on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway Ave. Montgomery, IL 60538. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, October 25th at 10:00 AM at Dieterle Memorial Home and interment will follow at River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia, IL.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Montgomery VFW Post 7452.
