Virginia "Gini" Cotter

Gini Cotter of Aurora, Illinois passed away on June 16, 2017 at Loyola Hospital.  She was born September 3, 1951 in Providence Rhode Island to Howard and Virginia Johnson.  At the age of 14, she and he mother moved to Wheaton, Illinois where she graduated from Wheaton North High School.  After graduating from Aurora University in 1974, she began teaching Kindergarten at Nicholson School in Montgomery, Illinois.  She taught Kindergarten at Nicholson for 29 years and sometimes taught the children of former students.  After retiring from District 129, she worked as an aide at the pre-school of the New England Congregational Church, where she spent six happy years.

Gini was known for her generosity to her students, fellow teachers and student teachers.  No child ever went hungry because they did not bring a snack and no child ever went home without mittens on a cold day. Gini was also known for her outgoing personality which resulted in her knowing the names of every teacher, teacher’s aide, support staff and bus driver.  She was particularly determined to make any new comer welcome.

Gini was an active member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Teaching Sorority which provides scholarships and assistance to students who want to be teachers.

She leaves behind her loving husband, Dennis of 30 years, son, Michael McCloud, grandsons Dylan and Cameron McCloud and special cousin, Bob Stuff of Fitchburg, WI.  In addition, she leaves behind her beloved brothers and sisters-in-law, Eileen and John Cotter of Silver Spring, MD and Judith and Michael Cotter of University Park, MD.  Family will be receiving guests on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 4:00 PM until the time of service at 7:00 PM at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway Ave. Montgomery, IL 60538. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Winona City Cemetery, Winona, IL.
