Alfred W. Crawford (93), of Naperville, IL, passed away on March 8, 2023.
Alfred was born in Chicago to Katherine (Hadju) and Alfred Crawford Sr. on December 9, 1929. An Army veteran, Alfred served during the Korean War. Upon his return, he moved to Naperville, Illinois, obtaining a position with the U.S. Post Office. For the next 25 years, he delivered mail to Naperville residents, and earned the Letter Carrier of the Year honor, the first carrier outside the city of Chicago to do so. Those on his routes cherished his warm smile and friendliness.
Preceding Alfred in death were his loving companion, Carol Honaker; and brothers, Ralph and Donald (Sheila) Crawford. Alfred is survived by his two daughters, Michele (Jeff) Green of Lakewood, Wisconsin and Mary Crawford (William Borden); and his two grandchildren, Elsa and Patrick of Naperville, IL.
Unwavering in his faith and passionate about his church, Alfred served St. Raphael Catholic parish in Naperville. He was loving, kind and continuously showed appreciation and gratitude toward those around him – he’ll be remembered by the many lives he touched. During his last year, he inspired family, friends and medical staff with his optimism and determination to stay strong despite many illnesses.
Family will receive guests on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway Ave, Montgomery, IL, 60538. A funeral service will take place at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 1215 Modaff Rd, Naperville, IL. Interment will immediately follow at West Batavia Cemetery. 900 S. Batavia Ave, Batavia, IL.
