Bernhard Holst

Bernhard Holst, 85, of Montgomery, passed away Friday June 2, 2017, at Rush Copley Medical Center, with his wife of 56 years, Edith by his side.  He was born in Breman, Germany,  December  20, 1931, son of Bernhard and Katharina (Holste) Holst.  Bernhard was a member of the Foreign Legion for 7 years, and the United States Army for 1 ½ years.   Bernhard was employed by Volkswagen, holding several titles during his 32+ year career.  Bernhard’s interests included politics, and books, he was an avid reader and had an extensive library. He was also an historian, being very knowledgeable about worldwide historical events in Europe, the United States, Asia and Africa. He is survived by his wife, Edith, 1 brother Guenther (Phyllis), and 2 sisters, Gisela (Donald) Smith and Karin (Rudi) Staff.  Funeral service will be held Friday June 9, 2017, at 10:30 am at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120  S.
