Bert J. Silich, 100, of Plainfield, IL, passed away April 10, 2018 at Seasons Hospice in Naperville, surrounded by his family. He was born March 6, 1918 in Novinger, Missouri; son of Bartol and Anna(Buban) Silich. He attended Crane Tech High School in Chicago. Bert worked several jobs before being drafted in World War II; he was stationed in Europe and proudly served in The United States Army’s 149th Combat Engineers Battalion. Bert was employed as a machinist for the United States Postal Service for 32 years. He was very proud of his Croation heritage, and was active in the Croation Fraternal Union where he was a member for 81 years and served as President of the Sloboda SAC. Bert had a great sense of humor; he enjoyed dancing, fixing things around the house. He was especially proud of the house he built in 1959 in Oswego where the lived family for 40 years. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Frances, 2 daughters, Shirley (Lee) Walat, Linda (Mike) Pence, 1 son, Bert (Susan), 1 nephew Scott (Anna), 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Family will be receiving guests Monday April 16, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Dieterle Memorial Home 1120 S. Broadway, Montgomery, IL.
