Betty Ann (Gain) Hilderbrand, of Aurora, passed away Friday, June 29, at Rush-Copley Memorial Hospital. She was born May 29, 1930, in Harvey, IL, and moved to Aurora with her family a few years later.
She was preceded by her husband of 64 years, James Hilderbrand, by her parents L. Harold Gain, Sr. and Anna Gain, and by her brother, L. Harold “Harry” Gain, Jr.
She is survived by her sister, Nancy (Dean) Dolan, of Hampshire, brother William Gain, of Sugar Grove, by two sons, Michael (Diana) Hilderbrand, of Galveston, TX, and William (Maureen) Hilderbrand, of Tampa, FL, and by four grandchildren, James (Breeyn Cranley) Hilderbrand, of Burlington, WI, Joshua Hilderbrand, of Madison, WI, Jason Hilderbrand, of Oak Creek, WI, and Marissa Hilderbrand, currently in Busan, South Korea. She leaves behind her beloved dog, Rusty, who was her devoted companion in recent years.
Betty graduated from East High School of Aurora in 1948, and from the Copley Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. As a registered nurse, she worked in several locations, including the Copley OB-Nursery and the Caterpillar Tractor medical facility. She also worked several years, part-time, at Kearns Accounting, in Montgomery.
Betty was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, in Aurora. She was active in PTA, scouting and Copley Alumni. She kept up with many friends and classmates from her years in East Aurora, including her class at Beaupre Elementary. She was a proud member of the Aurora Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution, and an avid Cubs and Bulls fan.
And for over ten years she was the face of Sweets ‘n’ Stuff, a small family business, in St. Charles and Aurora. Ever the optimist, her out-going personality and helpful nature created a fun and very inviting store and work environment.
At a celebration last month for her 88th birthday, Betty was visited by many friends and family at Alden Gardens of Waterford assisted living in Aurora. She was in her element.
