Carmen Montanez

Carmen Montanez, 86, of Aurora passed away peacefully on January 7, 2018. She was born on July 10, 1931 in Puerto Rico, the daughter of Ausucion and Narcisa (Burgos) Martinez. Carmen worked for many years at Aurora Paperboard and later retired from AT&T after several years of dedicated service. Cooking was a passion of hers and she was known for many specialty recipes. Carmen paved the way for many when they came from Puerto Rico. She housed many men and cooked 3 meals a day for them until they were able to get on their own feet. She was a lovely lady and she will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her children; Carmen Martinez, David Montanez, Ramona (Emelio Alvira) Velazquez and Julio (Marisol) Montanez; grandchildren, Myra (Wilgen) Rivera, Julian (Keiko Jin) Montanez, Marily Velazquez, Nilsa (Antonio) Rosales, and Anibal, Judy and Alex Martinez. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren and sister, Cruz Martinez. She is preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Cristobal and brothers; Juan, Chucho, Felo and Esteban Martinez.

Family will be receiving guests on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway Ave. Montgomery, IL 60538. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 771 Fulton Street, Aurora, IL 60506. Interment will follow at River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia, IL.
