Charlotte Gemmer

Charlotte (Char) Marie Volkel Gemmer, 93, died on Saturday, January 26, 2019 after a brief stay at Bright Oaks Facility in Aurora.  Char was born March 22, 1925 at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey Illinois. Char was united in marriage to Ervin Gemmer on January 12, 1952 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Aurora Illinois.  Erv and Char shared 67 years of love, laughter and friendship.  Their family was blessed as they welcomed two children, David and Mark in 1954 and 1956.  Char delighted in being a mother to her boys and was very involved in Cub Scouts and Family Camping. Char was a long-time member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.  Through the Travel Group at the church, Erv and Char traveled the world including England, Spain, and the great pyramids of Egypt.  They had a second home in Door County Wisconsin where they spent many enjoyable moments, walking, fishing, and enjoying nature.  They shared a love of antiques and spent many pleasurable hours searching for treasures that graced their home.Char was a talented artist, and her painting are displayed with pride at her childrens’ and grandchildren’s homes.  She enjoyed sewing, knitting and cooking for her family.  Char was a lifelong Chicago White Sox fan.  Char was given the title of “Honorary Coach” when she threw out the first pitch at the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox game on September 16, 1990. Char leaves behind her loving husband, Ervin Gemmer.  Their two children, David and Rita Gemmer of Morris Illinois and Mark and JoAnne Gemmer of Aurora Illinois.  Her Sister Lois Stuart of Boulder Hill, Illinois.  Six grandchildren, Rebecca & David Wheeler of Yorkville IL, Melissa and Luke Brockman of Mazon IL, Beth and Paul Lohrey of Plano, IL, Anna Gemmer of Seneca IL, Brian Gemmer of Aurora IL, and Megan and Brad Thill of North Aurora IL, 12 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. Char is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Marie Volkel and her sister Margaret Lewis.
