Donovan Leonard Olson, 88, of North Aurora, IL, passed away on Sunday November 25, 2018.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 30 at Dieterle Memorial Funeral Home, 1120 S Broadway Ave, Montgomery, IL 60538. Burial will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora. Friends are welcome to visit from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Thursday at Dieterle (630.897.1196).
Donovan was born October 9, 1930 in Aurora to Leonard and Myrtle (Smith) Olson. He graduated from Aurora East High School in 1948 and University of Illinois in 1953 with a M.S in Music Education. He married his childhood sweetheart formerly Patricia J. Chadwick in 1954. He enlisted in Navy Officer’s Candidate School and served in the Navy until 1962.
Don could play just about any musical instrument. He formed a band in high school called The Quin-Tones. In the 1960’s, he and a good friend formed the Meyers-Olson Band. He was an active member of Aurora Legion Band. Don was a manager for All Steel Office Furniture in Aurora and retired in 1992. He loved his family, enjoyed fishing and boating, and annual family vacation trips to Door County, WI.
Don is survived by son Steven (Laura) Olson of Dallas, TX, daughter Nancy (Bill) Walsh of Batavia, IL, daughter Cathy (John) Scandora of West Chicago, IL; ten grandchildren Joshua (Alexandria) and Caleb (Anna) Olson, Ryan, Kelley, Johnny and Meghan Walsh, Matthew (Jatana), Eric and Gregory Scandora, and Michelle Scandora (Zach) Forbes. Don was preceded in death by wife Patricia in 2011 and just missed seeing his great grandson Truman Forbes.
