Elizabeth "Betty" (Renz) Fisher

September 2, 1919 ~ June 13, 2018 (age 98) 98 Years Old

Tribute

Elizabeth “Betty” (Renz) Fisher passed away at Alden of Waterford, Aurora, Illinois, on June 13, 2018, at age 98.  She was born to Karl R. & Marie (Reilly) Renz of Ottawa, Illinois, on September 2, 1919.  She was married to Robert L. Fisher on May, 17, 1941, for 67 years until his death in 2008 at age 90. In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Capt. Karl R. Renz II, USAF, and an infant son, Mark David Fisher. She is survived by her children Adrienne (Bruce) DeKing, Ross (Grace) Fisher, Katherine (Wayne) O’Brien, Roger Fisher, Laurie (Matthew) Foley and Patricia (Daniel) Sheahan, as well as eight grandchildren: Jennifer, Julie, Keri, Chuck, Karlene, Tricia, Jessica and Joshua, and six great-grandchildren: Avery, Madeline, Hannah, Riley, Nolan and Ryker.  She is also survived by Sharon Phillip, and Danal & Annie Neill, her favorite “other” children because she didn’t have to give birth to them. Betty graduated from Holy Angels Grade School in 1933 and Madonna High School in 1937. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Betty raised six children and took in her mother, and later her mother-in-law and father-in-law in their final years.  In her 50’s and 60’s, Betty traveled to England, Singapore, Mexico, Jamaica, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. But she was first and foremost the matriarch at 804 Claim Street where the family lived for 45 years.  Claim Street operated like an all-night diner.  To quote her granddaughter Jennifer Huber; “Everyone was always welcome. You never knew who was going to be in grandma’s kitchen. There was an air of home and warmth; no one ever got turned away.  Grandma always had a seat for you at her ‘kitchen counter of therapy.’  I think that’s why so many people outside the family became part of the family.  Even my friends would say, ‘Wow, your grandma is so neat to just sit and talk to us.  Who does that anymore?’”She will be greatly missed. The family would like to express their appreciation to Monette, Litta, Michael, MaFe, Christian, Mary Jane, Samantha and all the staff at Alden for the wonderful care and concern they provided Betty over the last three years.  Thanks also go to Katya, Kim, Chaplain Stephen, Audra and the staff members of Seasons Hospice who took care of Betty and made her comfortable in her final days. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 620 5th Street, Aurora, until the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery, 278 Ashland Avenue, Aurora.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in loving memory of Betty may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  Arrangements by Dieterle Memorial Home, Montgomery, IL (630/897-1196).
