Elvera Vopat, 99, passed away peacefully at her home in Bristol, Illinois on Saturday April 17, 2021. She is survived by her children Jim Vopat, PawPaw, Illinois, Pat Rittgers (Brian), Zionsville, Indiana, Lori Greiter (Dave) Yorkville, Illinois, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister Leanna Nagel of Seward, Nebraska. Elvera was born on June 26, 1921 in Gresham, Nebraska to George and Emma Hinze. She married Denny Vopat on December 20, 1952. Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, her husband (1985) and an infant son, Ricky. (1956) Elvera grew up on a Nebraska farm during the Great Depression and became a licensed beautician in Omaha and Gresham, Nebraska. She loved her garden and preserving her vegetables to enjoy during the winter. She enjoyed staying busy sewing, crocheting, reading, doing jigsaw puzzles and the daily crossword puzzle. Her family and neighbors particularly enjoyed her baking skills and her helpful friendly nature. One of her greatest accomplishments was to being able to live independently in the family home of 60 years. She was also a member of St Luke’s Lutheran Church in Montgomery, Illinois. Most importantly, she truly was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St Luke’s Lutheran Church, or to a charity of your choice in Elvera’s name. Due to COVID-19 restrictions a private family service will be held Wednesday, April 21 at 10:00 a.m. at St Luke’s Lutheran Church in Montgomery, 63 Fernwood Rd, Montgomery, IL 60538.
