Ervin L. Gemmer

Ervin L. Gemmer, 94, died on Monday April 22, 2019 after a brief stay at Jennings Terrace in Aurora.  Erv was born April 18, 1925 in Aurora Illinois, the son of Carl and Anna Gemmer.

Erv was united in marriage to Charlotte (Char) Vokel on January 12, 1952 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Aurora Illinois.  Erv and Char shared 67 years of love, laughter and friendship.  Their family was blessed as they welcomed two children, David and Mark in 1954 and 1956

Erv was a long-time member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.  Through the Travel Group at the church, Erv and Char traveled the world including England, Spain, and the great pyramids of Egypt.  They had a second home in Door County Wisconsin where they spent many enjoyable hours, walking, fishing, and enjoying nature.  They shared a love of antiques and spent many pleasurable hours searching for treasures that graced their home.

Erv served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 aboard the battleship U.S.S. New Mexico in the South Pacific where he earned six battle stars.  His ship was in Tokyo Bay for the signing of the agreement to end the war. Many remember Erv working at Ward and Jones furniture store as a buyer and a manager for over 30 years.  Erv worked at Loctite Manufacturing for another 9 years, where he retired at the age of 62.

Erv is survived by two children, David and Rita Gemmer of Morris Illinois and Mark and JoAnne Gemmer of Aurora Illinois.  Six grandchildren, Rebecca & David Wheeler of Yorkville IL, Melissa and Luke Brockman of Mazon IL, Beth and Paul Lohrey of Plano, IL, Anna Gemmer of Seneca IL, Brian Gemmer of Aurora IL, and Megan and Brad Thill of North Aurora IL, 12 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

Erv is preceeded in death by his loving wife, Char.  His parents, Carl and Anna Gemmer and his brother Carl (Chi) Gemmer.
