John Vella, 89, of Aurora IL, passed away October 16, 2021. He was born September 12, 1932. He was widowed for many years from his loving wife, Rose, and survived by 2 sons, John (Jeanie) and Bill (Sherri) Vella. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
John Graduated From East Aurora HS where lettered in Football for 3 years as a running back/linebacker. He also served his country in the Army for 2 years. Later he became a pattern maker and moved in plastic injection molding for American Can corp. where he worked the majority of his years. In his retirement years he took a job as a teller at the OTB where he worked and played his harness racing with some special friends.
He loved to work with his hands and built: a house, a shed, a deck, 3 screened in porches and many creative ideas that only he could see and was very proud of. He also was an Aurora Hall of Fame bowler and loved sports in general. He was a lifelong Cub Fan and cherished his team. He also loved to handicap the horses and meet up with his buddies at the OTB and local clubs.
John was a very devoted husband, father to his boys and grandfather and was always there for them at every step of their lives. He loved attending the boys sporting events and was a proud Father that was easily seen by all. He made sure to take the family on summer vacations to the Northwoods and occasionally Florida as a special treat! So many Great Memories!
Our Dad will be greatly missed but forever in our hearts and memories!
There will a memorial service held at 11am on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at New Hope Baptist Church 4101 Needham Rd, Plano IL 60545 with a luncheon to immediately follow.
