Johnny Larry, 53, born March 8, 1969 in Chicago Illinois; the son of Audrey Larry and Johnny Harper. Johnny's life sunset on Sunday; April 24, 2022 in Highland Park, Illinois where he was surrounded by family and loved ones. Johnny professed his love for Christ, and was baptized at an early age; we know that he had a personal relationship with God.
He enjoyed football, cooking, gardening, painting, and drawing; but most of all; Johnny enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Johnny's love for gardening always pro-duced a crop of jalapeño peppers for all of his family to try. He really enjoyed the outdoors and found solitude while riding his bike, camping, fishing, swimming or simply listening to the birds chirp. All who knew him understood that Johnny loved sports and there was nothing better to him than watching a Chicago Bears football game. Johnny attended William C. Goudy Elementary School and graduated from Nicholas Senn High School where he excelled at baseball and football, and where he also met his lifelong friends Michael Belangee, Michael Rand and Daryl Chappel. Johnny became a Freemason in 1996, affiliated with Exodus Lodge no. 6 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons; he was a Master Mason.
Johnny earned a certificate in electrical systems maintenance and later gained his Commercial Drivers License where he became a truck driver for over 25 years. Notably he worked for Greyhound Bus Company, and UPS.
Johnny was preceded in death by his son Justyn. He is survived by his parents, son Kris, and grandson Jordan. In addition, he is survived by his siblings Cindy Larry, Shamekia (James) Toliver, Shayonna (Russell) Roberts. Johnny was loved and adored by a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, relatives, and friends. Johnny lived life his way and loved to have a good time. Most importantly he loved being around family! He valued his frequent road trips to visit Aurora, Illinois; Texas, St. Louis, and Mississippi. Johnny had a kindred heart, a humble spirit and a smile that shined brightly. Rest well…you will be missed but never forgotten Johnny "Pokie" Larry.
