Kevin C. Sundberg

Kevin Charles Sundberg, 53, of Oswego, Illinois, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born July 4, 1969, in St. Charles, Illinois, the son of Walter B. and Judith R. (Bahr) Sundberg. 

Kevin was a graduate of St. Charles High School class of 1987. He furthered his education at Waubonsee Community College where he met his future wife Jodi and played baseball. Kevin’s passions were baseball, softball, coaching his children, and always lending a helping hand. His favorite place in the world was the Lake of the Ozarks where he stayed at Lone Oak Point Resort and slalom skied, drove the waverunner, and spent time with family since he was 6. Throughout his life, Kevin mastered the art of tailgating at Jericho Park, Holy Angels, Aurora Central Catholic, Augustana College, and Mizzou. 

Many people were beneficiaries of Kevin’s very strong work ethic. This starts with Eagle’s Food Center and includes Seigle’s, Simplex, North American Builders Supply, and ends back at Simplex. In fact, he often worked two jobs which meant nights at Kohl’s and a pizzeria. He always expected and gave more of himself than others. He also taught this to his children, nieces, nephews, and others who would listen. 

Kevin was a strong family man, a loving husband, and a father figure to more than his children. Everyone will remember his smile, positivity, unlimited energy, love of music, enjoyment of watching sports, especially the White Sox, and walks with his dogs. In fact, he never knew when he was going home because he never knew how much fun he would be having.

Kevin will always be a bright light that will forever shine in the heart of everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Jodi (Wright) Sundberg; his two children Jordyn and Nathan, his parents Walter and Judith Sundberg of Genoa, his brother Kurt (Lianne) Sundberg of Elmhurst, his sister Kim (Mike) DesJardine of Aurora, and sister Kristine “Dede” Sundberg of Uxbridge, MA- a name given to her by Kevin; 11 nieces and nephews, Reed, Jer (Tina), and Will Sundberg, Samantha and Matt DesJardine, Jack, Connor, and Peyton Wright, Camden and Ainsley Wright, and Colin Wright. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, and loved ones. 

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Charles and Carolyn Bahr, Henry and Ruth Sundberg, and Father-in-law John O. Wright (Jack).

The family will receive guests on Monday, June 12, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 South Broadway Ave, Montgomery, IL 60538. Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 11:00 am at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 120 South Lancaster, Aurora, IL 60506. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Aurora Central Catholic High School Alumni Endowment Fund.
