Lucille Ann (Schur) Gain, known as Lucy Gain, a long time resident of Prestbury/Sugar Grove and St. Charles, died Sunday morning the 17th day of September, 2017 at Northwestern Medicine - Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. She died of complications of Multiple Myeloma and her ten year battle with the cancer.  Lucy was born on November 10, 1946 in Aurora, Illinois to Edna (Henker) and Fred Schur. Lucy earned her nursing license at Copley Hospital, School of Nursing and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Illinois University.  She worked as a Registered Nurse from 1968 to 2008 in various hospitals, including Carle Clinic in Champaign, IL; Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, NY; Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva, IL; and Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL.  She loved to help and care for others. She worked until her retirement in 2008 from Central DuPage Hospital.Lucy loved to plan and cook meals and especially loved to garden.  She became and volunteered as a Master Gardener. Her interest was establishing native species in her gardens. She was also interested in the effect of natural foods on one’s health and promoted healthy eating habits which led her to be a distributor of Juice Plus. Also, Lucy loved to travel, especially to Maui and Kauai where the sounds of the surf drowned out her thoughts of illness. Her attitude about death can be summarized by “Please don’t cry because I am gone but shout for joy that I was here”. Lucy was a faithful member of Rejoice Lutheran Church.  She and her husband served as co-leaders of the church’s Hesed House Mission Group, as well as an active member of the Hospitality Group. She firmly held her faith and embraced her church family. She is survived by her husband, William (Bill) Gain of Sugar Grove, her son and daughter in-law Matthew and Kerry (Nordbrock) Gain of Geneva, IL, her daughter Kathryn Elisabeth Gain-Sandy of Aurora, IL, three granddaughters, Chenoa Ann Gain, Anna Claire Gain, and Michelle Nicole Gain,  by a brother, Raymond and Fern (Hatfield) Schur of Louisville, KY, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Lucy was preceded in death by her father and mother, her step-father Edmund Halbesma, and her oldest brother and wife, Edwin and Katherine (Spicer) Schur.Visitation with family members will be held at Rejoice Lutheran Church (0N377 North Millcreek Drive, Geneva, IL 60134) on Saturday, October 7th from 9 am until 11 am when a Celebration of Life Service will be held for Lucy and followed by a luncheon.  Following the luncheon Lucy will be interned at River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia in a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that monetary gifts be made in her name to the International Multiple Myeloma Foundation (12650 Riverside Drive, Suite 206, North Hollywood, CA 91607, USA).
