Tribute

Marilyn "Mikki" Jane Majus, 95, of Palatine, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2022 in Arlington Heights.

Marilyn was born April 30, 1927, in Bloomington, IL to Thomas and Marie (Rhodus) Handley. She grew up in Chicago, where she graduated from St. Priscilla grade school and Steinmetz High School. She furthered her education at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, where she was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority. She was a long time resident of Palatine and parishioner of St. Theresa Parish, where she married her love, Stephen Majus in 1952. 

Marilyn was active in her community where she helped run the Palatine Book Review Club and was an election judge for 50 years. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister at Northwest Community Hospital. Marilyn worked with the Kennedys at the Merchants and Manufacturers Club “Merchandise Mart” as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, golfing, and playing cards with her friends and neighbors. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandson. 

Marilyn is survived by her children, Marc Majus, Steven (Sharon) Majus, and Melinda Vetter; grandchildren, Nathan (Sarah Jo), Crystal and Rachael Majus, Kevin and Rebecca Majus, Sarah (Dmitriy) Pindrik and Ryan Vetter; great-grandchild, Timothy James Pindrik; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Stephen Majus; her parents; brother, Gerald Handley; son-in-law, James Vetter; and daughter-in-law, Mickey Majus.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

A Memorial Mass will be at 10AM on June 11th, 2022 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 455 N Benton St, Palatine, IL 60067. Interment will follow service at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery in Palatine. For information call Dieterle Memorial Home 630-897-1196.
