Mary Carroll Cassidy of Aurora, a former teacher at Smith School for 21 years, died on July 28 at Hillside Care Center in Yorkville. She was 94. She was born September 17, 1923 to Thomas and Kathryn Carroll in Ottawa. She married Ralph Cassidy in June 1948 and moved to Aurora in 1957.
Survivors include Jane Cassidy (Richard Dienesch), Barbara (Jon) Sedgwick, Mary (Ray) Peterson, John (Bonnie) Cassidy, Thomas (Jacalyn) Cassidy, Dan (Agnes) Cassidy, and Patrick Cassidy, twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her husband, Ralph, and grandson, Nathan Cassidy, preceded her in death.
Mary enjoyed reading nonfiction and subscribed to several newspapers. She was witty and engaging. She was a member of the Aurora Area Retired Teachers Association, GFWC Woman’s Club of Aurora, and volunteered at the Dominican Literacy Center and World Vision, among others. Her family and friends will dearly miss her.
A mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 22, at St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church in Aurora, followed by a celebration of her life in the parish hall until 2:00 p.m.
