Mary E. Sherrill

Mary E. Sherrill, 99, of Aurora, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, January 1, 2018.  She was born on May 15, 1918 in Blossburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Thomas and Anna (Piontek) Walkowiak.

Mary was united in marriage on July 5, 1946 to Durkin G. Sherrill.  She spent her years as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt and will be deeply missed by her loving family. 

Mary was always a hardworking individual.  She graduated from Morris Run High School and the Detroit College of Business.  She worked for General Motors, Warner Aircraft, and RM Kauffman Dress Factory until her retirement.  In her retirement she filled her time making quilts, working in her flower garden and spending time with her family.  She never backed down from the grandkids asking her to ride the go-kart, four wheeler and truly enjoyed sledding.

Survivors include her daughter Lynn Ferrell, her son-n-law, Albert Franzen, her fourteen grandchildren: William (Robyn) Henne, Durkin (Geraldine) Henne, Kimberly (Kevin) Hoffman, Nicole Franzen, Jonathon (Katherine) Franzen, Matthew Franzen, Zachary Franzen and his fiancé, Angelica Gonzalez, Jacob (Sara) Franzen, Becky Ferrell, Tressa (Artie) Ferrell, Deva Ferrell, Tree Ferrell, Samuel Ferrell, and Liberty Ferrell, her sister, Margaret Goreczny , her twenty great-grandchildren, special friends, Justin Howieson and Joan Propernick, as well as several nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Durkin, and her daughter, Kim Franzen, her parents, three brothers, and six sisters.

As Mary was the oldest living member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Aurora, Illinois, a Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles, Illinois. Family will receive guests on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 9 to 10:30 am at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S Broadway in Montgomery, Illinois.
