Melanie Grace Heneghan

Melanie Grace Heneghan “Mel”, 26, of Montgomery, IL passed away on January 29, 2023 after a brief illness surrounded by family.

Melanie was born on August 19, 1996 in Aurora, IL the daughter of John and Marilyn (Rice) Heneghan.

Mel was a bright light that lived her short life to the fullest. She was a fierce competitor and very involved with the Kendall County Family and Friends Special Olympics. She competed in various events and won medals in bowling, snow shoeing, swimming, and track and field. These medals earned her the nickname “Gold Medal Mel”. She was an honorary princess and junior board member of Bike Bald Group in Oswego. Mel will be remembered for her sweet smile, her kindred spirit, the love she had for everyone she met and her feisty personality. 

She is survived by her loving parents John and Marilyn; sister, Kristina Langer and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, coaches and countless friends. She is preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents.

Family will be receiving guests on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway Ave. Montgomery, IL. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bike Bald Group or Kendall County Special Olympics Family and Friends.
