Michael D. Melody, 88, a lifelong resident of Aurora, IL passed away on January 17, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on December 3, 1934 in Aurora, IL the son of Patrick and Eleanor (Donavan) Melody. He graduated from East Aurora High School and remained a proud Tomcat. Mike was a lifelong parishioner at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. His servant’s heart led him into being an extraordinary minister serving his church community in so many capacities. He was proud of his faith and was devout until the very end. He graduated from St. Procopius College, now known as Illinois Benedictine and went to pursue a career as a caseworker for the Illinois Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, retiring after many years of dedicated service. After retirement Mike spent several years working as a proctor at Waubonsee Community College. He and his wife Barbara spent many years volunteering as Docents at Phillips Park in the visitor’s center where he loved teaching about the mastodons. Above all things, Mike loved his family dearly and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his children; Colleen (Justin) Robinson, Kevin (Monica) Melody, Sheila Melody, Brian (Karen) Melody, Patrick Melody and Timothy Melody; 14 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchildren and another on the way.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara and his parents.
A Funeral Mass will be held in October at Our Lady of Good Counsel with inurnment following at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemtery. Services will be announced in the Beacon News and the website will be updated. Until then, raise a glass of Guinness and toast to a wonderful man who lived a wonderful life.
