Tribute

Monica G. Cohetzaltitla, 96, of Aurora, IL passed away on March 4, 2023. She was born on May 4, 1926 in Puebla, Mexico, the daughter of Maria and Bernardino Cohetzaltitla. Monica was a beloved daughter to both her parents who taught her beautiful values.  Monica married and had 4 children, 3 daughters: Catalina, Lucia and Francisca and a son, Cristobal.  Monica raised her children as a strong single mother, with much hard work, lots of love, lots of care and all the sacrifices that come from the love of a great Mother.  As her children married and started their own families, she was the loving caregiver to many of her grand-children and great-grandchildren.  She quickly and naturally became a professional Grandma. She was at the front of the family, teaching her children and grand-children Christian-Catholic values, leading by example.

When the family immigrated to the United States, Monica worked very hard as a home-maker, cleaning-lady, cook in charge of major family events and a daycare center cook and classroom assistant.  She was deeply proud of her work at the daycare where she excitedly boasted that kids liked her food and she liked it more when she was asked to help with the kids, in the classrooms.  At her retirement, Monica was a busy-bee and continued to help her family in any way she could, her life motto was “where can I help?”.  She lived in Aurora with her granddaughter, Maria Teresa and her children, for the past 10+ years. There she was very happy, making many of her sawing creations, her most favorite hobby.  She loved every moment of that and yearned for her next art project.  She shared her things with all her family and offered them so that they take something hand-made by her.  That is the reflection of Monica in life, always a loving and sharing soul.

She is survived by her children, Lucia Sosa, Francisca Sosa and Cristobal Sosa; Granddaughter and Great-grandchildren, Maria T. Reyna, Mayte Y. Naja, Isabella C. Naja, and Daniel A.
