Regina Jean Murphy

July 7, 1948 ~ May 3, 2021 (age 72) 72 Years Old

Tribute

Beloved matriarch Regina “Reggie” Jean (Thomas) Murphy, 72, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 3, 2021 in Montgomery, IL. Reggie was born July 7, 1948 in Chicago, IL. She grew up in Chicago and Wood Dale with five siblings, family, friends and many unique pets.

Reggie met her soul mate at age 10 when her family moved next door to the Murphy’s, one look and he was hooked for life. Gary and Reggie faced many challenges in their 56 years of marriage, but their strong love, commitment to one another and the partnership they shared helped them to overcome all. Together they created a loving family legacy as well as a successful business.

Reggie enjoyed the outdoors, birdwatching, music, dancing and was always passionate about trying new things. She was very active and enjoyed playing golf. She was very proud of her hole in one. Especially since she is the only one in the family to achieve this goal.

Reggie had a warm and welcoming presence with the ability to make everyone who came into her life feel special.  Her pride and joy were her family, she lived her life to make them happy. She was always excited to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and the feeling was mutual. Reggie and her Sistas had a uniquely loving relationship and things would get “crazy” at Sista Weekend. What happens on Sista weekend stays at Sista weekend.

Reggie is survived by her loving husband Gary, her sons Gary Jr (Becca) and Mike (Denise) Murphy, grandchildren Jacob Murphy, Cody (Amanda) Murphy, Michael Szwacki and Sharelle (Jeff) Hammers, great grandchildren Ayden and Dean Hammers, siblings Bert Thomas, Maureen Robertson, Terry (Bernard) Patti, Lani (Terry) Dunfee and Cindy Rose and many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.  She is proceeded in death by her parents Bertis & Ernistine (Zielinski) Thomas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations under Regina's name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
