Shirley J Fluegel

Shirley J. Fluegel, 79, of Cortland formerly of Aurora passed away on May 6, 2018. She was born on April 3, 1939 in Aurora, IL the daughter of John and Dorothy (Bauman) Martens. Shirley was deeply devout and a longtime member of St. Peter Church in Aurora. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Northern Illinois University. She took great pride in her nursing career and enjoyed her time as nurse with the VNA. Shirley was a wonderful and attentive mother and grandmother and found much joy in listening about their lives. She also loved quilting and she adored her dog Daisy.

She is survived by her sons; Dale (Anne) Fluegel, David (Coi) Fluegel and Curtis Fluegel; grandchildren, Nicole and Andrew Fluegel and John (Kristen) Tran; siblings, Barb (John) Biever, Brigid (Jim) Gassaway and Don (Sharon) Martens. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Steve Webster and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents as well as 2 brothers and one sister.

A Memorial Mass will be on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter Church, 925 Sard Ave. Aurora, IL 60506. A reception will follow.  Interment will be private.
