Tribute

Walter Henry Duy, 82, was born on July 24, 1939 in Aurora, IL the son of Henry and Emily Duy and was called to be with his Lord on April 20, 2022.  He graduated from St. Paul Lutheran Elementary School and later from East Aurora High School in 1957.  Walt had a passion for teaching.  After attending Aurora College and later graduate studies at NIU, his first assignment began as a science teacher at Jefferson Middle School.  Soon he was asked to administer a special team program at Franklin Middle School which he did with great joy.  When that program was ended, he accepted a position at Kaneland Middle School and later was Principal of the Kaneland Elementary School.  After his retirement, he was eager to continue with another phase of his life as Principal of Mooseheart Schools for 10 years.  Still wanting to use his teaching skills, he decided to create an anti-bullying program with puppets and so for the next 8 years “Cool Carl” and friends visited classrooms in East Aurora Elementary Schools where his sister, Lorraine Michelson, also a teacher, assisted him.  It was a real joy and fulfilled his purpose in life. Also, in the 1970’s, Walt and his wife Dolores began a venture where they both could work together. They started their business, Stained Glass Art, where he taught classes and Dolores fashioned windows and lamps for about 20 years.  One of their greatest accomplishments was the Aurora University Chapel windows.  Beyond his passion for work, he was a man of God who talked the talk and walked the walk.  He would always give thanks and praise to the Lord for all of life’s blessings. Walt is survived by his wife, Dolores; his daughters, Susan (Fernando Lebron) and Lynn (Donald Moore): grandchildren:  Jackson Thomas, Sophia Thomas, Elijah Lebron, Ethan Lebron, Jordan Moore and Payton Moore; great-grandchild Landon Klimek; sister Lorraine Michelson; Sister-in-law, Jan Duy Peterson and many nephews and nieces, cousins and numerous friends. He loved his family. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Duy and a grandson Rudy Thomas. A visitation will be held from 3pm-7pm on April 29, 2022 at Dieterle  Memorial Home 1120 S. Broadway in Montgomery.
