Paul "Joe" Gillette

Paul Joseph “Joe” Gillette, 70, of Oswego, IL passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017.  He was born December 5, 1946 in Galion, OH, the son of Paul  and Leona (Hill) Gillette. He attended The Ohio State University from 1964 – 1969.  He served as a Sgt. in the U.S. Air Force from 1970-1973, serving as a combat and peacetime historian.  Joe had an illustrious career in journalism, in broadcast, print and public affairs, most recently with The Beacon News for 27 years, retiring in 2011.    He was excellent writer and passionate wordsmith. Joe is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Riley)  (Bercaw) Gillette;  2 sons, Trevor (Heather) Gillette and Christopher Gillette; 2 daughters, Heidi (John) Heiman and Danielle (Christian) Koschil; 11 grandchildren, Dakota, Nathaniel, Joshua, Lilly, Isabella, Morgan, Chloe, Santiago, Cassandra, Roman and Aleksandr; and the mother his children, Sandra Gillette. He is preceded in death by his parents;  one sister, Roberta Gillette; and one son, Jason Bercaw.  Family will be receiving guests on Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m at Dieterle Memorial Home 1120 S.
